Steam Engine

In Mount Plesant Iowa, guess what we found.

An old steam engine. This thing is huge.
I think I could drive it.
This is where you build the fire to run it. Nothing in here but a birds nest for now.

It is finally time to harvest my gourds.

Dad got the ladder out for me so I could get these ones hiding on the roof.
This one is heavy. I finally made it back to the ladder.
10 gourds, not bad for my first try. I have 3 more that may grow a little more before we get a heavy frost. Dad can you carry this for me?

Waterfalls

I really like to look at waterfalls. When the sunlight hits the water it is really pretty. They also have a very relaxing sound. While looking at this one I ran into Beaureguard Bear. He told me to watch while he caught some salmon for his lunch. It was so much fun. I asked Beaureguard if he had seen the movie Brother Bear. He said no, but he was glad that I liked it.

Swedesburg

We have seen this sign on some of our outings. We finally had time to stop and check it out.
There is a neat straw ram there. Isn't it pretty with all the ribbons and flowers?
I even got to pick a few cherries to take home. Remember the story of George Washington [He was our first president] chopping down a cherry tree? I think we need one of these in our yard.

A BIG Texas Hello

I got a late start today. My Uncle Larry and Aunt Penny were here to visit me. They said a big Hello from Texas to everyone. It was a little chilly so we had to put our coats on. They brought me all kinds of jewelry and even supplies so I can write a book about my adventures. I will have to get started on it.

Have a wonderful day.

TGIF

It seems like summer is winding down. We decided to take advantage of a nice day. The sunshine looked so inviting and the swings were waiting for us. Climbing, and swinging was lots of fun.
When we got on the big swing we discussed what to put on the pumpkin. You will have to wait and see. It will be a suprise.

What a fun evening

Cody and I went up to Dad's store to pick out a movie to watch. We chose "The Wild". What a fun movie. I recommend seeing it.
After our movie, we wandered in Dad's treasure store. Look what we found. An ouija board. I wonder what answers we'll get?

Target practice

When Dad took us to the Bass pro shop, I got to do a little target practice. [It was with targets, not live animals] The rifle was really heavy so I got to use a benchrest to help with the weight of it.When you hit the target an animal jumped or lights went off. The machine even kept score for us. It was lots of fun. Dad, Mom and I all took turns. Let's just say Mom kicked Dad's butt. Next I would like to try a bow and arrow.

Eartha and Saheli

I was out for a morning stroll when I ran into Eartha Elk. Boy am I glad I don't have to carry antlers around like Eartha. She told me it's not that bad. I think they look real neat. She promised to come visit me again when she's in the neighborhood.
I think skunks are misunderstood. Saheli was very nice. Saheli means friend. I think her parents picked a great name for her.

Just the other day

on our way home from one of our road trips, we stopped by the Dutchmans store in Cantril. It's like stepping into the past. This store has everything. The rockers on the front porch are all handmade. They are really neat. There was even one my size. Mom said the 2 I already have are plenty, unless Dad builds on another room, lol.

Phinneus Possum

Seems like I'm up a tree again. I ran into Phinneus Possum. We had a nice chat, we even shared a persimmon. It wasn't as good as an apple, but I guess it's a matter of taste. Well I have a busy day ahead, be sure to enjoy yours.

The Bridges of Madison County

I'm sure you all have heard of the bridges of Madison county. On one of our road trips, we were able to see 5 out of the 6 that are left. They are very old. The bridges were originally covered to protect the wooden flooring. The timber layouts holding them up inside are a as unique as the bridges themselves. They gave naming rights to the families near where the bridges were originally placed. They each bear family names. One bridge has two family names. Dad said we can stop and see the last one on another road trip.

Look how big they are.

There sure is alot of writing in here.

Whinnie liked seeing them too.
